Broken Wheat Upma is a healthy breakfast recipe. It is delicious and at the same time easy to make. You will simply love it and it is for the health conscious as well.
To start with, you need to wash and soak the broken wheat for at least half an hour. Keep all the ingredients ready.
Heat oil in a heavy bottomed pan. When the oil is hot, add in the mustard seeds. After it splutters, add in the red chilli and saute. Next add in the chopped onions, ginger, green chilli, and curry leaves. Saute it well for some time till the onions are translucent.
Now, lower the flamer and add in the soaked broken wheat and mix well. After that add in the grated coconut and salt to taste. Make sure you mix the coconut really well. Add around half a cup of water and mix again. Cover and cook for around 15 - 20 minutes or till the wheat is cooked properly. Make sure you keep checking and blending the upma very frequently in between and add water little by little if required, just enough to cook the wheat.
The grated coconut gives the upma a very refreshing flavour and I am sure you will love it.
