29 Apr Meen Mulakittathu or Kerala Style Fish Curry
Meen Mulakittathu or Kerala Style Fish Curry is a very common dish in Kerala. This is made with mainly red chilli powder. You will simply love this fish curry, as it tastes yummy and is very easy to make as well.
To make the fish curry, keep all the ingredients ready.
Heat oil in a deep heavy bottom pan. When the oil is hot, add in the mustard seeds. Now let it splutter. After that add in the fenugreek seeds. The next step is to add the coarsely ground ginger-garlic paste. Saute well for a few seconds or till the raw smell of the paste goes off.
Next, add in the chopped onions, slit green chilli and curry leaves. Saute well for some time till translucent. Once done add in the turmeric powder and red chilli powder. If you want the curry to be spicier, you can add in more chilli powder. Saute well for a few minutes.
The next step is to add in the chopped tomatoes. Cook them till soft. You can add half a cup of water at this time so that the tomatoes cook well. Once this is done, add enough water as required for the gravy and bring it to a boil. When the gravy starts to boil, add in the pot tamarind or kudampuli to it. Then put in the fish into the gravy and finally add in salt to taste. Blend well.
Cover and cook on a medium flame for around 20-25 minutes. Your yummy Meen Mulakittathu or Kerala Style Fish Curry is ready.
You can serve it with rice, roti or any breads.
